why are BMW Z8's so expensive?

Question 1
why are BMW Z8's so expensive?...  Seriously. i just looked up some on ebay, and they go up to 80,000. WTF
even a Z3 isnt worth that much, they're like from 5000 to 18000.
so, why are they?

Answers
1)   Because it costs a lot (comparatively) more to make them. The Z8 is a much higher model than the Z3. In the future this may help, BMW uses a numerical designation with their cars. The higher the number, the more elaborate the car. Z8 is better than an Z3. M5 better than M3. 5 series better than 3 series. - AsYLum dRiVeR

2)   Well, a z8 was a special car that bmw built. It was a very low volume car as only a few thousand (if that) were made. It's supposed to be the lightest, most powerful model made at that time. - Mr. Republican

3)   The vehicle was limited production. The price new was 100,000
and up with with a alpina edition after production. Z3 is a small
vehicle roadster Availible with 4 or 6 cly engines only mass
produced. Z8 limited with 8cyl engines and when upkept stunn
ing interior. - Cablaamm

4)   cause they suck shit, buy a diff car. If you want a z8 put in some extra Gs and buy a datsun GTR! - Lad

5)   because it's special. - frs

Question 2
Looking at buying a BMW or Mercedes?...  It's time for me to purchase a new vehicle. I've been looking at the BMW X3 SUV and BMW 3 series coupe sedan. Both are good looking cars in the BMW line.. However, the Mercedes C-class and G-class are more loaded on the inside.. Any suggestions? How are the maintenance on these cars? I need something reliable and something that doesn't require me to take it to the dealer every 6-9 months.

Answers
1)   a lot of it comes down to personal preference. whatever you think is nicer, and rides better is the one for you. they are pretty evenly matched (at least the cars are, im not all that sure on the SUV's) but i have a preference for mercedes. i find that it looks more modern, but neither of these cars will need to go in for maitenence every 6 months except for an oil change or a tire rotation. - Bernie

2)   beamers run better the a benz. my mom has a benz and its very fancy. clk550 07. look at infinit. they are very equipped and run very amazing and very reliable. benz have problems more then a beamer and infiniti. and benz are too much for what they offer. beamers interiors start to look like crap in no time. please look at infiniti. look at the fx35 or the ex35 or the g series. the g37 sedan performs excellent. 330horses. it performs better then a benz sedan and a beamer sedan. infinitis start out at 32,000 and japan makes very good cars. - Addison

3)   Well, to make it simple, they are all very nice cars. Beemers are more sporty in general than the Mercs. The Mercs are more for older people (not in every case) and provide more of an leisure ride.

BMWs are engineered to the exact specifications as a race car and therefore no BMW has a horsepower lower than 200. For maintenance, they are about the same give or take a few depending on your car or your dealer. BMWs are German parts/ German made while the Mercs were bought by Mexico but still have a very good reputation.

///M vs ///AMG the BMW M motorsport wins for sure, the AMG might have more power for the drag race but in a track, the handling is just not as good as the M models.

In the end, they are both luxurious vehicles, which one you choose depends on you. C class more for leisure driving, 3 series more for performance. Add an M after it and you will get the ultimate driving machine. - Kevin Z

4)   Addison I agree with you. Get the G35 coupe or G35x sedan with AWD. Infiniti is Japanese and it can last for a good long time. - Wegiel

5)   just buy an ol' banger and save your money because the recssion will come back and smack u around the chops. - DHARMESH

4)   a 750il is a v12 so expect to pay alot in gas and repair bills - Dalton

5)   I have a 325-great on gas! a 750 is a pretty big model, so the gas mileage will be worse than that of a 5 or 3 series. Beemers are more than ok-they're great..very reliable, my dad has 2 M3s and loves them - elle

Question 4
my bmw 1988 528e is dying my battery. I have replaced my battery as well as my alternator?...

Answers
1)   something is on/whether its the glove box light or trunk light or a live relay for something else/you need bmw garage to run tests with their equipment/ - ken k

2)   You probably have something draining your battery when the car is not running. - Larry E

3)   Simple answer, difficult repair. Something in the auto's electrical system is either staying on when it should be off, or an electrical wire is exposed and touching metal. To find out what, you have to test every electrical system. Lights, signals, horn, radio, cigarette lighter, parking lights, everything. If you don't find fault in any of those, then you have to trace each wire to each system. You might want to find out where the auto's 'wiring harness' is located. Usually under a seat or something. You might find the location if you have an owners manual. Check out the harness first. Another old time trick: At night, open the hood - ignition key on - car in park - emergency break on. With the hood open, step on the front bumper to rock the car. Rock the car real good. If you see any sparks anywhere around the engine or from any wire, then you've found the defective electrical wire. (you do this procedure at night because in daylight you cannot see a spark. Also, you might hear the electrical short and not see it) Good Luck. - Joseph

4)   The electrical system in this vehicle is not that complex.
But you wil need external amp probe to monitor the amp draw
in the vehicle. Gaining acsess to the fuse pannel. Remove fuse
one by one until draw no longer is present. This way you find
what circut the draw is on. From there you find a wirring diagram
and unplug the diffrent things on the circut. Clamp on amp probe
availible at auto parts store cheap. Since this is a older vehicle
anything over 100ma is to much. - Cablaamm

Question 5
A QUESTION ABOUT THE NEW M3?...  My bf drives the new M3 and is always complaining about the lack of light on the key. I drive a 01 corolla so i dont quite know what he means. lol. but seriously how can i solve this problem? what kind of keychain light or penlight would be best for the M3 driver? what is LED and is it ideal?
(BTW, i know that the outdoor handles on the M3 light up, but he complains about not having a light to use for his home locks and other stuff he needs lit.)

Answers
1)   it's time like these I wish ET were still around or have shared his magic finger power. Ever stop and think, is that all he's got? The finger light trick.
oh, yeah, get him outdoor spotlights with sensors on his house entrance. Unless he lives on a farm and in that case wtf is he driving an M3 for? - ricardo9505

2)   Just get him a key chain flashlight. There's really no point to getting a whole new key fob just so you can have a light on it. Also, LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, and those are probably the best kind of flashlight you can get for a key chain. - johnnybravo60025

3)   LED is the best light source and the only key chain accessory to consider. My favorite one is made by CRKT and it is a light, knife, and caribiner in one. - SLPR

4)   What the hell is ricardo even talking about. Wow lol

Ok what your boyfriend is referring to is the bmw keys that have a built in LED light that shines out from the black part (sorry i tried REALLY hard to find a picture of one but couldnt. picture this : http://vocc.dealerimpact.com/1/5970/images/Content/Service%20photos/A0041347.jpg with a light that shines out where the metal meets the plastic) they were available on some X5's and a few other models over the years. So, sadly, you cant get one for his car, but another REALLY good, if not better, solution are these :

http://www.1st-gift.com/photo/150/2382-5/LED-Key-Chain-Light-SP566-698.jpg

They are really cool. and soooo bright. the ones in the picture are kind of cheap but you can find really nice ones at like REI or even like Kmart I'm sure. Basically any place with outdoors/camping stuff. Now that you mention it i think im going to get one lol. bright green is cool for sure . btw, REALLY good gift for a boyfriend I would love this. another good place you can look for bmw things is bimmian.com they have high quality bmw accessories and mods (not like the cheap stuff it is like OEM quality parts) if his car is black or white you should totally get him the black and white emblems they are stickers that cover the blue on the emblem. like $20. be careful they take a while to ship though but it might be just because im in Orange county - Philip
